An original deed signed by Jehoiada Jeffery and James P. Houston (brother of Sam Houston). The deed shows the sale of land between James Jeffery and Marian Jeffery and Asa McFettch & Company in the District of Lawrence in the Territory of Arkansas, January 18, 1834. It was not filed until June 21, 1837 when it was signed by J.P. Houston as Clerk and Ex-Officio Recorder. James P. Houston was the first County Clerk for Izard County and was apparently quite a colorful character. The deed is part of the Blevins collection at Old Independence Regional Museum.
