The DaBoll collection at Old Independence Regional Museum contains this photo of William DaBoll from around 1940. Mr. DaBoll was an acclaimed calligrapher and artist. Born in New York in 1892, at age 17 he entered the Art Institute of Chicago. He apprenticed in engraving and typographical layouts as well as lettering. In 1929 he began free-lancing, and over the years worked for many businesses including Esso, Morrell and National Geographic. He received frequent awards from New York, Philadelphia and Chicago exhibitions. He had a studio in Chicago but moved to Newark Arkansas. Every year he designed Christmas cards and printing plates from which to print Christmas greetings for his friends.

The second photo shows one of the many annual Christmas cards designed by Ray DaBoll.  He and his wife Irene sent this particular greeting from their home in Newark to friends in 1970.  The card is part of the Martin Collection at Old Independence Regional Museum.
