Quilla Andrew Sims was his full name but in later years he was often called Quilly. Sims was born on October 6, 1882 in Independence County and died on July 16, 1974. He was married to Sidney Tucker Sims and they had five daughters: Ellen Brightwell, Geraldine Mitchum, Frances Phelan, May Louise Sims, and Maxine Duncan. Sims worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for 42 years. He spent most of his time on steam powered snag boats on the White River with occasional assignments on the Arkansas or Mississippi rivers.

The photo was donated to the Museum by Sims’ grandson and is part of the Mitchum Collection at Old Independence Regional Museum.
