“Bitterweed Patch”

The Powell Guard Collection contains this photo which they printed in the paper on November 17-23, 1894. The caption they printed under the picture read, “Bitterweed Patch – This picture may have been made in a bitterweed patch instead of an alfalfa field, but it would be hard to find fault with the appearance of these young gentlemen. They are, left to right, E.E. Allen, a noted Newark merchant; W.K. Crow, a farmer; and Edgar Chesser, a banker. William Kennerly Crow and Maude Edgar Crow were the parents of three children, all living. They are Mary Crow Shields of Newark, Stacy Joe Crow Dennen of California, and Mack Crow of Marked Tree. We hope to publish more information about these men and their families, including Dr. Williamson who is said to have come from Wales.

Photo courtesy of Mary Crow Shields.”
