Ledger cover
The Parks collection at Old Independence Regional Museum is home to this ledger with medical formula that once belonged to Dr. Sam B. Steele of Hot Springs, Arkansas. The ledger contains Dr. Steele’s private medical formulas as well as cash payments that were made to the doctor. Inside the ledger were two prescription sheets with directions on how to use the medicine. In addition there was a note about cancer treatments with directions not to mention the word “cancer.”
Prescription
Dr. Steele saved the life of the donor of the ledger in the summer of 1934. He was a child and had severe colitis. The donor and his mother went to live with the doctor for full time care and was eventually restore to full health.
