Naval Shell Casing from U.S.S. Little Rock 1976

This 6 inch Naval shell casing was fired in October 1976 from the U.S.S. Little Rock. The ship was going into port to be decommissioned, and all ammunition from the ship was expended. This was the largest shell casting used and each shell could travel from 12 to 14 miles. Dr. J.D. Allen a former Lt. of the U.S. Navy Medical Corps came into possession of the shell casing and donated it to Old Independence Regional Museum.
