Army Air Force Corporal Allen Leroy Moore, pictured here, was in the 393rd Bomb squad of the 509th Composite Group whose sole purpose was to drop the atomic bomb.
Another photo from 1940 shows some of the crew pictured with General Tibbetts and the B-29 plane “The Great Artiste” that they flew.
Also included in the Floyd Collection at Old Independence Regional Museum are these letters that Floyd wrote to his parents in Batesville.
In the letter to his father, he talks about an earthquake that took place while he was sitting on the wing of his plane.
In the letter to his mother, he talks about a war widow he met in Kansas City.
