Cherry pitter with spring action and a table clamp

Do you know what this is?    This tool is part of the Scheer Collection at Old Independence Regional Museum.  This antique kitchen tool dates from around 1917.  It was patented on August 7, 1917 and was manufactured by Home Cherry Stone of St. Louis Missouri.  It is a Cherry pitter with spring action and a table clamp.  Two cherries could be pitted at the same time.
