This leather receipt book was made in 1867. When donated it contained three stamps inside: 50 cents, $1 Entry for goods, and $5 Charter Party (all Internal Revenue). It also has a small flat knife that might have been used as a letter opener. Written on a paper inside “Draft in favor of E.R. McGuire on Taylor …& Co.,. Memphis Tennessee. Drawn by E.L. Watson for seven hundred and fifty dollars at thirty days, Jacksonport, March 11 1870.” This item is part of the Maxfield Collection at Old Independence Regional Museum.
